Surveillance of the occurrence of potentially toxic cyanobacteria was triggered in Germany by a three-year survey conducted in the context of a three-year cooperative program funded by the German Ministry for Research and Technology, which analyzed more than 670 samples provided by about 20 different institutions from altogether 133 water-bodies. Results have been published for microcystins by Fastner et al., for anatoxin-a by Bumke-Vogt et al. and as a comprehensive compilation also including results on hepatotoxicity and other neurotoxins in Chorus. In this extended abstract, key results are summarized for comparison with results from other countries. Includes tables.
