As the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) lowered the arsenic maximum contaminant level (MCL) to 10 micrograms/liter (Au/L), the utilities that are
dependent on groundwater, are looking for options to bring their system in compliance
before the stated deadline of January 23, 2006. Similar to many other utilities in the
Western United States, arsenic is a concern for the City of Peoria, Arizona. Twelve wells
were identified with elevated arsenic. This study evaluated the available non-treatment
and treatment techniques to develop strategies for bringing the City groundwater to
compliance. This paper describes the process used to develop a compliance plan for the
City of Peoria.
