This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of regulated disinfectants and disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in Korea, by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR) and Treatment Technique (TT), factors influencing THM and HAA formation, chlorinated disinfection byproducts (DBPs) production, and various approaches on DBP modeling. Study objectives are stated as: develop models for predicting disinfectant residuals and DBP formation (THMs) and apply to water facilities; continuous monitoring of DBPs (THMs, THMFP) using on-line TOC/UV analyzer; and, evaluation of DBPs and CT Monitoring System (Process Optimization). Experimental conditions for modeling are provided, along with Trihalomethane Formation Potential (THMFP) models for raw water and for sand-filtered and BAC treated water, a diagram of pilot scale plant and DBPs monitoring system, the constitution of DBPs in raw water, correlation between observed and predicted THMFP (raw water and treated water), procedure of process optimization, and a comparison between optimal and real removal efficiency according to unit process. Includes tables, figures.
