This powerpoint presentation begins by providing background information on pharmaceuticals in natural waters and wastewater. The presentation looks at the potential transformations of pharmaceuticals to toxic byproducts, synergistic effects of exposure to multiple pharmaceuticals, and long-term vs. short term effects. Conclusions were that: during drinking water and wastewater chlorination acetaminophen is degraded and toxic benzoquinone is produced; and, degradation of acetaminophen and production of toxic benzoquinone depends on pH and on the applied "chlorine to pharmaceutical" molar ratio. Includes tables, figures.
