This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the overall objective of
developing hierarchical
oligonucleotide primer extension
(HOPE) as a tool to identify fecal
contamination sources. The experimental approach included the following: develop a set of primers to identify human and
nonhuman fecal contamination;
test on feces collected from known origins,
formulate evaluation criteria;
validation - test on blind samples, test on environmental waters; and,
evaluate HOPE results with fecal coliform test. Includes figures.
