In collaboration with partners in the Water Sector, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA's)
Office of Water is implementing the Water Laboratory Alliance (WLA), which provides the Water Sector
with an integrated nationwide network of laboratories. This network provides the capabilities and capacity
to analyze water samples in the event of natural, intentional, or unintentional water contamination
involving chemical, biological, or radiochemical contaminants. The USEPA formally launched the WLA in the Fall of 2009 in conjunction with the second phase roll-out of its Environmental Response Laboratory Network (ERLN). The WLA focuses solely on water and is an integral part of the USEPA's ERLN, which also addresses contamination in other environmental matrices, including air and soil.
