This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of perchlorate, nitrate, treatment technologies and phosphorus. Study objective was to determine how phosphorus addition may change the structure and function of microbial communities in biofilm reactors. Real-time PCR is presented and study conclusions indicate that: the properly controlled addition of phosphorus can promote beneficial microbial activities in biofilm reactors; the impacts of phosphorus addition depend on the chemical and microbial composition of the respective influents; and, changes in the relative abundance of microbial populations due to phosphorus addition can be instantaneous. Includes figures.
