communication and how it can
mitigate a crisis. It outlines both the telephone and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system and how they are effective, dependable forms of communication in a crisis and give proactive notification for both public and private sectors. Examples of proactive crisis management are outlined and include: Southern Company (2004 hurricanes); PEPCO (loss of substation); and, Forsyth County, Georgia (water shortage, June 2006). The presentation lists criteria to look for in telecom technology, and gives the advantages/disadvantages of off-site solutions vs. on-premise systems.
