This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Port Hueneme Naval Base in Ventura County, California. The scope of work included a contamination warning system (CWS) pilot-program
development and implementation. This effort included:
CWS Master Planning Effort (including hydraulic modeling);
design of the CWS;
installation and testing of the CWS; and,
CWS data analysis and lessons learned. The objective of the pilot project was to: demonstrate the multiple benefits of the CWS related to
contamination warning,
regulatory compliance, and
operational support; and,
serve as a model for other Department of Defense (DOD)
facilities. Presentation conclusions indicate the following:
CWS can and should be designed for multiple benefits (contamination warning, regulatory compliance, and operational support);
in order to properly design a CWS, site-specific information
and priorities must be carefully weighed (one size does not fit
all);
a properly designed data handling and transfer approach to
CWS should yield validated data available to operations staff
in a matter of minutes as opposed to days; and,
contract amendments, purchasing and awarding
construction contracts on DoD facilities is a very lengthy. Includes tables, figures.
