Principally for tools subject to resharpening, with separate millmetre and inch series chosen so that both millimetre and inch tool posts heights will accept both millimetre and inch tool shanks. An alternative design for constant-height tools without the millimetre/i nch interchangeability. A second alternative design suitable for the 'gooseneck' tools used in the rear tool posts of certain lathes.
