This British Standard specifies surgical scalpels in a range of six sizes. Provision is made for scalpels made by two methodes of manufacture, viz:

a. Completely hand-forges from one piece of steel and
b. From drop-forges handles with block ends made from one piece of steel for subsequent hand-forging of the blades.
