Replaces BS 5655-2:1988 which remains current until implementation of the EU Lift Directive. Until 1 July 1999 new lift installations can conform to either this British Standard or to BS 5655-2:1988. After 1 July 1999 BS 5655-2:1988, together with BS 5655-12:1989 will apply only for modernization of existing lift installations and this standard will apply to all new installations.
