This method describes a procedure for the quantitative analysis of fibre mixtures based on manual separation of the fibre types.
This method is applicable to textiles whose component fibres can be separated by hand (e.g., yarns composed of several elements, each of which contains one type of fibre; fabrics in which the warp yarns are of different type of fibre from the weft yarns; knitted fabrics capable of being ravelled and made up of yarns of different types) and differentiated visually. The method is not applicable to textiles whose component fibres form an intimate mixture.
If the types of fibres present in the mixture are not known, they must be identified before quantitative analysis is undertaken (par. 9.1).
The accuracy of the results obtained with this method will be decreased by the presence of nonfibrous finishes that cannot be removed.
