This standard applies to immersion suit systems that:

  • reduce thermal shock upon entry into cold water;

  • delay the onset of hypothermia during immersion in cold water;

  • provide flotation for the wearer while in the water; and

  • do not impair the wearer's ability to perform necessary abandonment procedures.

Appendix A includes guidelines for insulation of the suit system exterior fabric.

Appendix B describes the approval procedure.

Appendix C describes the production inspection procedure.

Appendix D includes the requirements and test procedures for waterproof zippers.
