1.

General Requirements for Combustion Safety Controls and Solid-State Igniters for Gas- and Oil-Burning Equipment

1.1.1

This Standard applies to combustion safety controls and solid -state igniters for gas- and oil-burning equipment that are designed to be used in accordance with the Rules of Part I of the Canadian Electrical Code.

1.1.2

Refer to Clause 2 for additional requirements for combustion safety controls.

1.1.3

Refer to Clause 3 for additional requirements for automa tic gas ignition systems and components.

1.1.4

Refer to Clause 4 for additional requirements for solid- state oil igniters.

1.1.5

More than one clause may be applicable to a given device.

2.

Requirements for Combustion Safety Controls

2.1.1

Clause 2 is supplementary to or amendatory of those requirements given elsewhere in this Standard and applies to combustion safety controls for gas- and oil-burning equipment, other th an those covered in Clause 3.

2.1.2

Clause 2 applies to any controls or systems that provide flame monitoring or programming functions other than simple thermocouple systems such as thermocouple or thermopile operated, combination gas valves.

3.

Requirements for Automatic Gas Ignition Systems and Components

3.1.1

Clause 3 is supplementary to or amendatory of those requirements given elsewhere in this Standard and applies to automatic gas ignition systems and components thereof intended primarily for use with gas appliances having inputs of 400 000 Btu per hour (117 228 W) or less per individual combustion chamber.

3.1.2

Clause 3 applies to automatic gas ignition systems which perform the following functions and to components which perform one or more of those functions: (a) ignite the gas at the main burner(s), or at the pilot burner(s) so that it can ignite the main burner(s); (b) prove the presence of either the ignition source, the main burner flame, or both; and (c) automatically act to shut off the gas supply to the main burner(s) or to the pilot burner(s) and the main burner(s), when the supervised flame or ignition means is not proved.

3.1.3

Clause 3 applies to automatic gas ignition systems and components thereof for use with one or both of the following gases: (a) natural; and (b) propane.

4.

Requirements for Solid-State Oil Igniters

4.1.1

Clause 4 is supplementary to or amendatory of those requirements given elsewhere in this Standard, and applies to solid-stat e oil igniters and to the igniter portion of combustion safety control systems intended to be installed in nonhazardous locations, in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, at nominal supply voltages of 300 V or less.
