1.1 This Standard applies to (a) horizontal-axis and vertical-axis compact and standard household automatic or semi-automatic clothes washers; and (b) coin/card-operated residential-style clothes washers.

1.2 This Standard does not apply to wringer washers or twin tub washers/spinners.

1.3 This Standard does not provide a means for determining the energy consumption of a clothes washer with an adaptive control system unless it is provided with an alternative manual control system (i.e., a user-selectable control system) that allows selection of the operating mode of the machine by the user.
