1. Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to low-pressure connecting assemblies for medical gas systems in any health care facility.
1.2
This Standard contains two parts as follows: (a) Part I contains requirements relating to the construction, performance, and identification of low-pressure connecting assemblies (see Clauses 3 through 6); and (b) Part II contains requirements relating to production testing and the use of low-pressure connecting assemblies (see Clauses 7 through 8).
1.3
This Standard also includes requirements for quick connectors and adaptors for use with low-pressure connecting assemblies.
1.4
The purpose of this Standard is to enhance the safety and safe use of low-pressure connecting assemblies and to assist manuf acturers, administrators of health care facilities, and others involved with the use of these devices in health care facilities, to achieve this goal.
1.5
This Standard does not include requirements for piping systems for nonflammable medical gases, or gas-dispensing equipment, such as anaesthetic machines and lung ventilators, or pressure regulators, flow-metering devices, and gauges.
