1. Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to all pressure regulators, gauges, and flow-metering devices for medical gases in health care facilities and prescribed domiciliary use, eg, (a) in medical gas systems; (b) on anaesthetic machines, lung ventilators, portable oxygen therap y equipment, or other therapeutic, diagnostic, research, or teaching equipment.

Users of this Standard should refer to CSA Standards CAN3-Z168. 3, CAN3-Z168.5, CAN3-Z168.7, and CAN3-Z305.1 for other applicable requirements.
1.2
This Standard includes construction, performance, and labelling r equirements as well as requirements for the correct application of pressure regulators, gauges, and flow-metering devices in medical gas systems or on anaesthetic machines, lung ventilators, or other therapeutic, diagnostic, research, or teaching equipment.
1.3
The purpose of this Standard is (a) to ensure the safe performance and construction of pressure regulators, gauges, and flow-metering devices; and (b) to minimize hazards resulting from the use of pressure regulators, gauges, and flow-metering devices with medical gases under pressure.
1.4
This Standard contains two parts as follows: (a) Part I contains requirements relating to construction, performance, information on, and marking of pressure regulators, gauges, and flow-metering devices (see Clauses 3 through 6); and (b) Part II contains requirements relating to the use of pressure regulators and flow-metering devices (see Clause 7).
