Scope

1.1

This Standard defines essential elements in the selection, use, maintenance, and laundering of reusable textile wrappers, surgical gowns, and drapes for use in health facilities. Included are reusable woven textiles that are free of films or c oatings and those having films or coatings which, when applied to reusable woven textiles, meet the basic characteristics in Clause 4.1.

The objective of this Standard is to provide a procedural guide for hospitals and similar health care facilities that will ensure the continued serviceability properties of reusable textile wrappers, surgical gowns, and drapes and promote safe infection control practices, to safeguard patients and caregivers through the selection of appropriate textiles.

1.3

This Standard includes the minimum construction and performance requirements for reusable textile wrappers, surgical gowns, and drapes that will enable them to provide an effective barrier.

1.4

This Standard specifically excludes all other textiles, including items such as masks, caps, or shoe covers, and any item designed for single use only.

1.5

This Standard does not provide for either presterilization or poststerilization procedures or machine operator requirements, nor does it specify tests to be performed that are designed to indicate the probability of product sterility. Note:

For the subject matter excluded by Clause 1.5, refer to CSA Standards CAN/CSA-Z314.2 and CAN/CSA-Z314.3.
