La presente Norma si applica alle apparecchiature destinate al controllo continuo dei gas nobili negli effluenti gassosi rilasciati da una centrale nucleare in condizioni di incidente e post-incidente. Essa definisce le modalità di detto controllo e fornisce una guida generale sulla sensibilità e la capacità dell'apparecchiatura di fornire rapidamente le informazioni sullo scarico di effluenti gassosi radioattivi, necessarie per completare le dovute misure per la protezione. La Norma non prende in esame il prelievo dei campioni né le analisi di laboratorio, che sono essenziali in un programma completo di controllo degli effluenti.
La presente Norma costituisce la ristampa senza modifiche, secondo il nuovo progetto di veste editoriale, della Norma pari numero ed edizione (Fascicolo 1570).
