Essa è una delle numerose norme correlate fra loro pubblicate dall'IEC come fascicoli separati della pubblicazione IEC 574. Lo schema completo delle varie parti in cui la pubblicazione IEC 574 è articolata si trova nella pubblicazione IEC 574-1 (Norma CEI 60-9).
La presente Norma costituisce la ristampa consolidata, secondo il nuovo progetto di veste editoriale, della Norma pari numero ed edizione (Fascicolo 1506); essa incorpora la Variante V1 pubblicata precedentemente in Fascicolo separato (Fascicolo 1758 V).
