Essa ha lo scopo di elencare e definire le caratteristiche che influenzano le prestazioni dei lettori di compact disc, stabilire le condizioni ed i metodi di misura di dette caratteristiche e normalizzare la presentazione dei risultati.
La presente Norma costituisce la ristampa senza modifiche, secondo il nuovo progetto di veste editoriale, della Norma pari numero ed edizione (Fascicolo 2211 E).
