La Guida fornisce le istruzioni per la redazione delle specifiche tecniche necessarie all'approvvigionamento di turbine a gas, comprese le turbine a gas per impianti a ciclo combinato e loro ausiliari, per l'impiego in centrali per la produzione di energia elettrica.
Essa si applica ad impianti con turbine a gas in ciclo aperto con potenza generalmente maggiore di 20 MW elettrici e riguarda anche le centrali a ciclo chiuso, a ciclo semichiuso e a ciclo combinato con turbina a gas per la produzione di calore ed energia. Non considera invece le turbine per applicazioni navali, aeronautiche, ferroviarie e in altre installazioni non stazionarie.
