This standard is presented as a companion publication to the Canadian General Standards Board standards on coal, and is intended primarily for use of personnel charged with the duty of sampling coal purchased and delivered under the terms of these standards. It covers procedures for the sampling of coal classified according to ash content and top particle size.
This issue of the standard differs form the previous version of 18 August 1950 mainly in that it (1) significantly reduces the labor required in sample collection and preparation, (2) reduces errors in sample reduction and preparation by eliminating coning-and-quartering procedures, (3) provides improved control of moisture and size consist, and (4) is based on scientifically tested incremental sampling requirements of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), This standard requires that the sampler be provided with sufficient information on coal contract tonnages and delivery schedules to allow implementation of programmed proportionate incremental sampling.
