This specification applies to a uniform mixture of potash soap made from tall-oil, pine oil, water, sodium chromate, and kerosene or a similar distillate that when diluted in specific proportions with a suitable solvent or water, will remove grease and oil surface contamination from metal parts.

The grease-removing cleaning compound will:

a. make a solution that removes grease and oil contamination from metal surfaces. The solution may be applied to the soiled metal object by spraying, brushing or dipping. A high-pressure water rinse will emulsify the mixture and remove grease and oil; or

b. make an emulsion that when used warm (not over 66°C) will remove grease from pipelines, tanks and other confined space.

The testing and evaluation of a product against this specification may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this specification has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
