This standard applies to inherently buoyant devices intended to be worn on the body to provide flotation in marine emergency situations. Life jackets conforming to this standard are in accord with the provisions of the International Conventions for the Safety of Life at Sea (Solas 1960 and 1974 Conventions to which Canada is a signatory) and are intended to be used where standard life jackets are required as part of a ship's mandatory equipment.
