The concept of this book comes from the American Acne and Rosacea Society, an organization dedicated to advancing the science related to acne and rosacea and enhancing communication between those interested in these diseases. The book is not meant to be a comprehensive treatise on all aspects of acne, but rather to address major points of interest by acknowledged thought leaders in the field assisted by residents in training at their affiliated institutions. It is the hope of the editors that this book will lead to further research, discussion, and refinement of our concepts of both the pathogenesis and treatment of acne and, as such, should be considered more of a work in progress than the definitive work on acne.
