Preface

The Xth International Symposium on Amyloidosis was held in Tours, France, April 18 –22, 2004. The meeting was organized by Dr. Gilles Grateau and colleagues, and was held in the Vinci Conference Center. The extended abstracts published in this book attest to the high quality scientific information that was presented. A new and well-received feature of the meeting was the workshops on diagnosis and typing of amyloidosis and on clinical management of patients with various systemic forms of amyloidosis.

The International Society of Amyloidosis was formally launched, and an election of officers took place. Robert Kyle (USA) became the first president of the Society. Other officers include: Vice President, Giampaolo Merlini (Italy); Secretary, Bouke Hazenberg (The Netherlands); Treasurer, Morie Gertz (USA); and three membersat– large, Robert Kisilevsky (Canada), Martha Skinner (USA), and Per Westermark (Sweden).
