Preface
Over the last decade, interest in interventional therapies for congenital and structural heart disease has increased significantly.About two years ago, Sievert and colleagues published an important textbook on this subject. That book sparked our interest in editing a book that describes in detail all that the chosen experts' knowledge of possible complications associated with advanced interventional therapies for complex congenital and structural heart disease. We hope that it serves you well in those stressful times that lie ahead for all of us.
Each chapter follows a certain format, starting with a very brief discussion of the lesion, followed by what is required (equipment needed) to carry out a successful intervention, tips on how not to get into a problem and, finally, if you get into trouble, how to get out and navigate yourself from this problem.
We have assembled the best of the best in this field and we believe that you'll find the answer to almost every imaginable complication that can be encountered.
No doubt as newer procedures emerge (valvular replacement/repair techniques) in the future, one needs to update the knowledge based on the specific technique or device used.
