Preface
Computer-aided detection (CADe) and computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) systems, collectively referred to as CAD systems, are playing increasingly important roles in aiding radiologists to improve their accuracy in the detection and diagnosis of various diseases, particularly cancers. e development of CAD systems requires multidisciplinary technologies from image processing, pattern recognition, arti cial intelligence, to medical imaging. With the remarkable progress in these elds, CAD has advanced rapidly since the 1980s and has become one of the major research topics in medical imaging. CAD systems have been developed to detect and diagnose various diseases in various medical imaging modalities and in various body organs, from breast cancer in breast imaging, lung cancer in chest imaging, colon cancer in abdominal imaging, to brain tumor in brain imaging. is book presents the major technical advancements and methodologies in the development and clinical utility of CAD systems in breast imaging, chest imaging, abdominal imaging, and other emerging applications.
