Preface to the Second Edition

The principles and basis on which the first edition of this book were formulated have been followed in the second edition, and all the chapters of the first edition have been expanded and updated to include new developments in the field. In addition, the following new subjects have been incorporated:

Atmospheric corrosion

Corrosion inhibitors

Sheet linings

Designing to prevent corrosion

As in the first edition, theory is only touched on to provide a basic background.

I extend my gratitude to all the contributors who updated their chapters and to those other authors who undertook the assignment of updating the work of contributors to the first edition who were unable to update their original manuscripts.
