Preface

Dear Colleagues:

Horses are wonderful creatures that can teach us many life lessons. They are a source of admiration and pleasure for owners and veterinarians. Equine dermatology is an often underestimated part of equine practice. Due to the chronic nature of many skin problems they may cause frustration for veterinarians, clients, and patients alike. We have learned a lot about equine skin diseases in the last few years, but still have so much more to learn.

The goal of this book is to provide a practical approach to equine dermatology for the practitioner. There is information to help you diagnose and manage skin diseases seen every day in practice and enough detail for a solid workup in horses with rare or complicated skin diseases that may require further reading, advice from or referral to a veterinary dermatologist or equine internist.

Most of all, I hope it will allow you to enjoy your dermatology cases, to increase your diagnostic skills and improve the quality of life for your equine patients.
