Preface

This book has been written in response to changes in the MRCPCH entry criteria. It is aimed at both paediatricians in training and those preparing for postgraduate examinations. There are 500 questions, all of which are either Best of Fives (BOFs) or Extended Matching Questions (EMQs), selected according to the revised entry criteria. The questions, and the accompanying notes on conditions, have been written drawing on many resources, as well as on the wide personal experience of the author as a clinican and teacher. The content is intended to be comprehensive and easy to read, with both basic and clinical knowledge applied as much as possible.

My advice to readers is to look at the questions, try to answer them, and then turn to the answers. If you think that you disagree with an answer, go to one of the references and read more about the relevant topic. You may find it helpful to read this book together with colleagues – exchanging views as well as knowledge will help in understanding the questions and solving the problems.
