Hydrostatic testing assesses pressure vessels, such as pipelines, for strength and leaks. It involves filling a vessel with liquid and pressurizing the vessel to a set test level. While an important procedure for industries, residual liquid from the test can cause issues with vessel corrosion, particularly microbial corrosion. This manual discusses how test liquid must be selected, corrosion by bacteria ought to be controlled, and the possibility of leakage can be eliminated. It does not teach how to conduct a hydrotest, but helps the reader evaluate the quality of a hydrotest already conducted in terms of use of oxygen scavenger, biocide testing, inhibitor addition, and water quality.
