Preface
This book will cover the modern use of ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and radioisotopes in imaging the urinary tract. It will also offer an insight into new advancements in these modalities, including the fast developing field of functional imaging.
This book offers information about a wide range of uroradiological topics, ranging from the use of magnetic resonance imaging or multislice computed tomography in urography to image-guided ablation of renal tumors. The importance of using helical computed tomography in diagnosing stones of the urinary tract and determining the nature of complicated renal cysts is discussed and the use of the magnetic resonance imaging technique in imaging the prostate and the urinary tract in infants and children. In addition, the use of imaging to guide interventional urological procedures and recent developments in interventional urinary tract radiologic techniques are reviewed. The use of imaging in planning for nephron-sparing surgery and for managing patients with renal artery stenosis is also discussed. Furthermore, as the kidney is the main route of elimination of water-soluble contrast media, which are regularly used in imaging the urinary tract, the safety of these agents is addressed.
This book is primarily intended for practicing radiologists, particularly those with a special interest in the urinary tract. However, it would also prove useful for urologists and renal physicians.
We hope that the information provided in this book will help the readers practice modern uroradiology safely and wisely.
We are most grateful to all the authors of this book for their hard work in preparing the manuscripts and for their expert contributions.
