Preface to the Second Edition

Many changes have taken place in ophthalmic practice over the last 10 years, and these are reflected in this completely revised and expanded second edition. Likewise, there has been a change in the primary authorship of the book, with Professor Uwe Pleyer taking over for Anthony Bron and John Hay. In this edition, we have rearranged the chapters and expanded the basic science but still kept the book to a reasonable length. We have supplemented the clinical text with numerous flow diagrams, which we hope will please those readers who wish to have "one page" summaries for quick reference. However, the book also retains in-depth discussions of key topics related to the science, diagnosis, and treatment of ocular infection, for the benefit of those who wish to study the subject in more detail.
