Preface

Welcome to the third edition of General Surgery Outpatient Decisions. This edition of the book has been updated and expanded to appeal to North American surgeons. Although we have simplified the title to Outpatient Surgery, we have not changed the focus of the book; we still focus on answering questions that are relevant to your everyday practice and in preparation for your professional examinations.

In this edition, we have recruited some of the most prestigious American academic surgeons to rework and review a chapter in their specialty. This allowed us to update the book to both modern American practice style as well as to include the most up-to-date information since the last edition of the book. In addition, a general surgery resident reviewed each chapter, ensuring that each chapter is understandable from a trainees point of view and degree of experience. We have also added several review questions for each chapter; we believe that this type of rapid review will both increase understanding as well as retention of the material. These new approaches have led to an entirely new edition, which we believe you will enjoy.
