Preface

The field of device closure of defects of the interatrial septum has expanded rapidly over the past ten years and it is likely that there will be further rapid increase in the numbers of procedures being performed. In this book we address the anatomy of the interatrial septum and review the types of defect that are amenable to device closure, including the patent foramen ovale. We review the imaging techniques that are available and the techniques used for closure. We have gathered together the world leaders in percutaneous closure to review the individual devices that are currently available. Each of the contributors has extensive experience in the use of these devices. We hope that this book will provide the interventional cardiologist with a useful resource with which to embark upon this important technique.
