Preface
When I began to work with people with disabilities in the domiciliary family planning service, two main facts struck me. First, very few people with disabilities attended family planning clinics and I was initially seeing small numbers on my visits. Liaising with the general practitioners, they seemed to see even fewer people. Were people with disability accessing services or were they being neglected? Secondly, the unease expressed by health professionals and others when sexuality and disability was raised. Many have said to me over the years 'you should write something about this, it would be so helpful'. Here is the result, and I hope that it will be helpful and valuable in improving the service provided for people with disabilities.
