This is the first edition of CSA C374, Energy performance of hot tubs and spas.

This Standard provides a test method and energy performance requirements for hot tubs and spas. CSA is indebted to the California Energy Commission (CEC) for the use of their document Appliance Efficiency Regulations - California Code of Regulations, Title 20, August 2009, in the development of this Standard.

Scope 1.1 General
This Standard applies to electric hot tubs/spas that are factory-built, self-contained packaged units supplied with equipment for heating and circulating water. These units are connected to an electrical supply circuit of 250 V or less (i.e., 125 V maximum to ground).
This Standard specifies test procedures, test conditions, and performance requirements for standby energy performance and markings of electric hot tubs/spas.
This Standard does not include exercise or swim spas.

1.2 Mandatory language
In CSA standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define their application.

1.3 Units of measurement
The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. Where values are given in parentheses, they are for information and comparison only.
