Preface
This is the second edition of CSA Special Publication O414, Manual of Terms and Definitions Recommended for Use in CSA Wood Standards. It revises and supersedes the previous edition published as CSA MISC.003-1968.
The Manual has been prepared primarily as a reference document for CSA committees responsible for forest products or other wood related standards and is intended to promote uniformity of definitions to the maximum extent possible.
It is recognized that the definitions herein may not be applicable in the context of every individual standard and may, therefore, be revised as necessary in such standards.
Notations are made herein indicating in which standard of the CSA ""O"" series a terms appears. The definition provided for each term may not be the same as the one in the standard(s) noted and in no case should the definition herein necessarily be assumed applicable to any individual standard.
This new edition was prepared by an ad hoc Committee of the CSA Standards Steering Committee on Forest Products and reviewed by the chairmen of the Technical Committees under that Steering Committee's jurisdiction.
