This International Standard applies to dental casting investment, dental brazing investment and dental refractory die products without regard to the composition of the binder or the composition of the particulate refractory phase. This International Standard classifies such products into Types, according to their intended use and Classes according to the burn-out procedure that is recommended by the manufacturer. This International Standard specifies requirements for the essential physical and mechanical properties of these products and the test methods to be used when determining them. Compliance with all of the requirements listed in 5 may not be necessary for some products. A requirement may not apply to a product with a particular binder chemistry or to a product intended for an application in which that requirement is irrelevant. When this is the case, a clear statement to this effect is given in 5. This International Standard also includes requirements for marking, labelling and instructions for use.
