This handbook contains the DS/EN 1176 series in English. DS/EN 1176-1 specifies the general safety requirements and test methods for playground equipment, and the subsequent seven parts, DS/EN 1176-2, -3, -4, -5, -6, -10, -11 specify additional specific safety requirements and test methods for swings, slides, cableways, carousels, rocking equipment, fully enclosed play equipment and spatial network. In addition, Part 7 is a guide to installation, operation, maintenance and inspection. The general safety requirements of DS/EN 1176-1 include: Requirements for heights, distances, angles and openings to reduce the hazards associated with particular fall as well as clamping of the head, body, limbs and clothes. Requirements for materials, for example, are also covered by this standard. The Danish Building Regulations 2018 (BR18) says about playground equipment that they must be designed in accordance with the DS/EN 1176-series and DS/EN 1177. DS/EN 1177 is not included in this book but may be purchased separately. The standards in this manual are mainly intended for manufacturers of playground equipment, test institutes, playground inspectors and playground owners, such as municipalities, housing associations or other publicly available playgrounds. However, they may also be used by others to estimate whether playground equipment has flaws that will have a serious impact on its safety.
