This part of ISO 11916 specifies the measurement of 16 explosive compounds (nitroaromatics and nitroamines) as given in Table 1 in soils and soil materials. This part of ISO 11916 is intended for the trace analysis of explosives by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using an ultraviolet (UV) detector. Similar compounds, in particular other nitroaromatics, by-products and degradation products of explosive compounds may be analysed using this method. However, the applicability should be checked case by case.
