This standard provides design procedures and requirements for spatial orientation and direction of movement of controls and displays utilized in tool machines, industrial robots, office machines, earth moving machineries, transport apparatuses (automobiles, railway electric cars(rolling stocks), air crafts, ships, etc.), information apparatuses, daily commodities, public utilities, or operational components in building facilities. This standard also determines the basic requirements for the operating directions of controls and moving directions or changing state of the target object, and other relations. This standard . defines three dimensional axes, the observer, viewing systems, linear movement, rotary movement, twodimensional and three-dimensional movements in a dynamic space sequentially; . describes four principles concerning the operating directions of a controls, moving directions of the target object , and/or displays; . provides GUI design principles and requirements that integrate the relationship between the computer operation unit and the screen in line with human characteristics in order to promote the safety and efficiency in computer-assisted tasks; . provides design principles and requirements for the moving directions of a target object and the controls of a combined control system using a multi-direction controls that easily realizes the complex operations intended by the operator often seen in industrial apparatuses for business use; . provides principles and requirements for the procedure of direction design for existing systems as well as new systems. Ergonomics requirements in this standard may be applied to designing direction of movement of other industrial goods such as medical equipment, TV game devices and relevant machines/devices.
