Dansk Standard
This International Standard specifies a test method for determining the reaction to fire performance of
pipe insulation products and some pipe insulation systems installed in a small room. The product is
mounted and fixed in a standard ISO 9705 room so that flames from a simulated internal fire will
impinge directly onto the product fitted to the internal corner away from the doorway. This fire scenario
represents a developing fire within a well-ventilated room in a building or a ship.
The scenario is valid for fires in a room where pipe insulation products are installed within building
applications, e.g. pipe and duct rooms in public buildings, apartment blocks, hospitals and ships. It is
not suitable for pipe insulation in concealed spaces, such as a horizontal or a vertical shaft.
The pipe insulation product is fitted on pipes in a defined standard configuration, taking into account
end use mounting and fixing conditions. In the standard configuration, steel pipes are used with an
inner pipe diameter of 21,3 mm, but pipe materials other than steel could be used if necessary as in
end use. A standard insulation thickness of 25 mm has been specified for this test but an insulation
thickness range is possible with this configuration of test specimen. The applicability of test method is
limited to pipes with relatively small diameter, up to 50 mm.
This method is suitable for products that cannot be tested in a small-scale test, or for correlation of
small-scale test data. The method can also serve as a reference scenario for pipe insulation products
or for systems fitted in a room within a building or a ship. Testing conditions are according to the end
use application and to the current principles of fire safety engineering.
This method is not intended for evaluating the fire resistance of pipe insulation systems.
