This International Standard provides performance specifications of the self-contained air-breathing apparatus (not using stored oxygen) required by International Bulk Chemical Code (IBC Code) and International Gas Carrier Code (IGC Code) of International Maritime Organization (IMO). The breathing apparatus manufactured in accordance with this International Standard forms part of the set of safety equipment, which permits personnel to enter a gas-filled compartment and perform work there. The breathing apparatus are also intended for use in fighting small to medium magnitude fires before operation of any installed fixed fire-fighting systems. They are not intended or suitable for entry into flames.
