This International Standard specifies requirements for the design, construction, safety, performance and acceptance testing of windlasses and anchor capstans. This International Standard is applicable to windlasses and anchor capstans of sea-going vessels which have electric, hydraulic, steam or external drive. NOTE 1: Where reference is made in the text to “windlass” it should be understood as “windlass and anchor capstan”, where applicable. NOTE 2: For combined windlasses/mooring winches, refer to ISO 3730 in addition to this International Standard.
