The format is mainly designed for data exchange between LCA practitioners but is also for other users of LCA data like data suppliers, reviewers and intended audience. The format focuses on LCI (life cycle inventory) data derived from ISO 14041, Goal and scope definition and inventory analysis. The format supports unambiguous data transfer and does not require that any specific field of the data documentation has to be completed. It is independent of the software platform for the implementation. The draft does not include e.g. graphical or procedural solutions for how data should be presented or treated. It does not describe methodologies for the modelling of LCA data.
