This International Standard specifies requirements and tests for the safe operation of 153 secondary lithium cells and batteries used in industrial applications including stationary 154 applications. 155 When there exists an IEC standard specifying test conditions and requirements for cells used 156 in special applications and which is in conflict with this standard, the former shall take 157 precedence. (e.g., IEC 62660: Road Vehicles). 158 The following are some examples of applications that utilize cells and batteries under the 159 scope of this standard. 160 • Stationary applications: telecom, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), electrical 161 energy storage system, utility switching, emergency power, and similar applications. 162 • Motive applications: forklift truck, golf cart, AGV, railway, and marine, excluding road 163 vehicles. 164 Since this standard covers batteries for various industrial applications, it includes those 165 requirements, which are common and minimum to the various applications. 166 Electrical safety is included only as a part of the risk analysis of Clause 8. In regard to details 167 for addressing electrical safety, the end use application standard requirements have to be 168 considered. 169 This standard applies to cells and batteries. If the battery is divided into smaller units, the 170 smaller unit can be tested as the representative of the battery. The manufacturer shall clearly 171 declare the tested unit. The manufacturer may add functions, which are present in the final 172 battery to the tested unit.
